The difference between a $200,000 home and a $2 million one isn’t just in the square footage. It’s in how it’s maintained

In the past, we cleaned many high-end, multiple-million-dollar homes. The difference we quickly make is dependent on the personality and the cleaning skills of the homeowner.

Most people don’t like to clean, I was reading an article that stated 59% of Americans don’t know how to clean at all. According to a survey conducted on more than 20000 Americans, revealed that half of Americans spend a whole month without cleaning, 10% say that they do not even have a cleaning routine, and sometimes spend almost 6 months without cleaning. Read more about the survey here!

This is not an exaggeration because, as a professional cleaner, I can tell when someone never cleans and does not know how to clean, and when someone knows how to clean and actually does the cleaning themselves.

The secret to an effective cleaning

Most people use harsh chemicals or skip key details that damage high-end finishes over time. December last year at 7 am in the morning my phone rang, and I answered.

It was a client who found me from a Google local ad service listing. She just renovated her house and wanted a post-construction cleaning. After negotiating, we agreed on the price, and I went and did the cleaning for her.

It was a nice $3 million house, very beautiful. All the countertops in the kitchen, in the bathroom, and in some other areas are in marble, nice wood floors, brand new windows, etc.

After moving in, there was some other work that needed to be done in the house. She called us for a second cleaning, we went and did the cleaning for her, and everything looked nice.

2 months later, she called us for a 3rd deep cleaning, and that’s when she started showing us a lot of spot damages on the surfaces of the marble. And she went, I don’t know what happened, but I tried to clean these spots and I can’t, and I went. What do you use to clean?

That is when I realised that she had a single lady who cleaned her house and used harsh chemicals and damaging the marble and high-end appliances at her house. Unfortunately, some products, when they are damaged something there are no repairs.

The secret to an effective cleaning is to read the description on the label of the product that you are using.

Mistakes that some 7-figure homeowners made

I found this interesting article from Google while I was doing some research, and I think this story can help you from making the same mistakes. The title goes like this:

Palm Beach housekeepers are making $150,000 a year due to the massive demand from the wealthy.

A post from NBCNEWS.com explains the story of Melissa Psitos, the founder of Lily’s Pond Services. “One of her clients is hoping to hire a housekeeping staff for $75,000 a year, ending with a pay $110,000.

Before, they were in shock and said No way I’m paying that and it was even embarrassing for the agency owner to give them the price. Even I, I would be embarrassed as well.

As many people do they go on google or on thumbtack hired a random cleaners with no experiences. After end firing the one that they hired for less they comeback and said “we have learn our lesson and willing to pay the price”

3 secrets to cleaning high end home

Cleaning a high-end home requires skills, not only knowing how to clean professionally, but also having discipline and respect for the house

1. Know different types of cleaning products

Knowing different cleaning products and their use can make a big difference. Knowing how to clean is good, but also knowing what to use to clean what can also be challenging.

I know a cleaner, and that lady used Clorox to clean the toilet, and after she used it, you can smell the Clorox from 3 miles away. That’s why, since the beginning, we have never used Chlorox

2. Have a main product

We use Envirox as our main cleaning product. Not only does it smell good, also it is also safe to use around pets, kids, and safe for the environment.

One of my clients is vegan and also allergic to strong fragrances, but when we tell her about what our main products and, she loves them.

3. Have discipline

The Cleaner needs to know how to move quietly and unnoticed throughout the house, needs to know how to carefully clean antiques, flatware, fine art, and how to properly wash and press fine linens.

This is very important. Two months ago, I was cleaning one of my clients’ houses, and she was on her phone. After like 30 minutes, she came out and said it’s so quiet here, I thought you were gone.

What else will you need to work with $2 million plus homeowners

  • Insurance
  • Have a standing cleaning contract, not one-off services
  • The cleaning checklist luxury homeowners actually care about
